Emerging East Asian Local Currency Bond Markets: A Regional Update

Issue: June 2023

Bond yields declined in emerging East Asia amid easing inflation and slowing pace of monetary tightening in the United States and across the region, according to the June 2023 issue of the Asia Bond Monitor. Buoyed by increased public sector issuance, emerging East Asian local currency bond market reached USD23.8 trillion at the end of March on growth of 2.2% q-o-q. However, higher borrowing costs reduced private sector issuance. ASEAN+3 sustainable bond market reached USD633.9 billion on moderating growth of 5.9% q-o-q. The latest issue of the Asia Bond Monitor includes a special section on the influence of climate risk awareness on investors’ trading decisions.
