Emerging East Asian Local Currency Bond Markets: A Regional Update
Issue: November 2022
Aggressive monetary tightening globally and in the region accelerated the weakening of financial conditions in emerging East Asia between 31 August and 4 November, according to the November 2022 issue of the Asia Bond Monitor. Tightened financial conditions led to a moderation of growth in emerging East Asian LCY bond markets, which reached an aggregate size of USD22.0 trillion at the end of the third quarter (Q3) of 2022 on growth of 2.3% quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q), compared to 3.1% q-o-q in the previous quarter. ASEAN+3 sustainable bond issuance contracted 25.3% q-o-q in Q3 2022 amid subdued investment sentiment.
