The main regulatory agencies in Thai capital markets are as follows: the Bank of Thailand (BOT), which supervises all banks and finance companies; Ministry of Finance, which oversees public finance, taxation, and the treasury; the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which supervises both primary and secondary securities markets; the Thai Bond Market Association (ThaiBMA), which operates the secondary bond market, registers dealers, and monitors all market activity; and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), which operates the Bond Electronic Exchange (BEX).
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Thailand (BOT) closely monitors both internal and external economic conditions. MPC has used core inflation under its inflation-targeting regime since May 2000. The monetary policy stance is signaled through its policy interest rate: the 1-day repurchase rate.
Under Bank of Thailand Act, B.E. 2551 of 2008, BOT is responsible for maintaining the stability of the monetary, financial, and payments systems.
The Bank of Thailand (BOT) is Thailand's central bank, supervising all banks and finance companies.
The Ministry of Finance (MOF) oversees public finance, taxation, and the treasury. Through its main agencies, it formulates economic, monetary, and fiscal policies as well as public sector borrowing and debt management policies.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) supervises both primary and secondary securities markets. It regulates securities companies and licenses bond dealers. The SEC links below lead to an outline of reporting and disclosure requirements. One SEC requirement is that all debt transactions be reported to the Thai Bond Market Association (ThaiBMA).
The ThaiBMA operates the secondary bond market, registers dealers, and monitors all market activity. It has self-regulatory functions, and has instituted several standards and conventions for bond trading. It collates all debt market data and is responsible for determining the Government's bond yield curve.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) operates the Bond Electronic Exchange (BEX). SET is a self-regulatory organization that governs its members' conduct and member companies in securities dealings. It is also responsible for marketplace surveillance. SET supervises and enforces disclosure standards for listed companies.
