General Supervisory Framework

The Bank of the Lao PDR (BOL) is the country's central bank and is responsible for licensing and supervising banks. The Ministry of Finance (MOF) is the tax authority.

The Department of Domestic and Foreign Investment (DDFI), formerly the Foreign Investment Management Committee, administers the foreign investment system.

The Lao PDR formally launched its stock exchange in January 2011. Lao Securities Exchange (LSX) opened with the listing of two companies—Electricite du Laos Generation Company and Banque Pour Le Commerce Exterieur Lao.
