Clearing and Settlement Systems
The five Japanese stock exchanges and the Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA), which self-regulates the organized over-the-counter (OTC) market, agreed in January 2002 to establish the Japan Securities Clearing Corporation (JSCC) as a cross-market clearing organization for stocks, bonds, and other securities traded in Japan.
Trustee and Custodial Functions
Japan Securities Settlement & Custody, Inc. (JSSC) was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in December 1953, to provide the exchange with settlement and custody services. JSSC currently handles deposit, delivery, and custody of domestic stocks as commissioned by Japan Securities. The Japan Securities Depository Center, Inc. (JASDEC) operates other related business.
