There are two major credit rating agencies in Japan: the Japan Credit Rating Agency, Ltd. (JCR); and Rating and Investment Information, Inc. (R&I). JCR rates long-term and short-term debts, including asset-backed securities. R&I's operations consist of three main businesses: ratings, which is its primary business; investment evaluation; and information services.
