Bond Identification

The International Securities Identification Number (ISIN) is the market standard for international bond issuances.

On the interbank government bond market (including other-the-counter [OTC]), the China Government Securities Depository Trust & Clearing Co. (CDC) is responsible for coding bond products. The first four digits are the year of the bond issuance (e.g. 2001), the subsequent two digits represent the sequence of the issuance that year, and the last two digits represent the tenor. Therefore, an ISIN of 20010307 would reflect the 3rd issuance of a 7-year bond in 2001.

The Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges have their own coding systems for different listed government and corporate bond products executed by the China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (CSDCC).
