The Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) is the designated registration authority for the International Securities Identification Number (ISIN). The ISIN is the only certified securities identifier for cross-border transactions.

Another independent numbering system (developed by the American Bankers Association) is the Committee Uniform Securities Identification Procedure (CUSIP), which uses a standard nine-character format to identify issuers of securities and other financial instruments.
