The Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) remains the primary issuer of bonds in the market. The CBM, on behalf of the government, has been issuing 3- and 5-year Treasury government bonds since 1993.

The Myanmar Securities Exchange Centre Co Ltd (MSEC) is the appointed selling agent of the CBM. MSEC is a joint venture between Myanmar Economic Bank and Japan’s Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd. MSEC was established to help develop an organized capital market for Myanmar. As an agent for the CBM, MSEC has started over-the-counter trading for treasury bonds and has bought and sold bonds to investors.
