Accounting rules for all businesses in the Lao PDR are based on the Enterprise Accounting Law (1990). Chapter 9 of the Business Guide, published by the Department of Domestic and Foreign Investment (DDFI), discusses accounting requirements in the Lao PDR.

The government is committed to improving its accounting systems, as stated in the August 2003 Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policies.
